An ad in Washington Afro-American (September 18, 1949, 8) for the opening U-line concert has Fats Navarro and Shelly Manne on the bill, indicating that they were planned as tour members. Health problems may have prevented them from participating. Bud Powell replaced Manne for the tour, while there was no trumpet in the final tour group.
